Guiting Power Medieval Manor Dig 2026Dating from the early Norman Conquest period we have located the remains of a large manor house with associated buildings arranged in a courtyard. The walls are very substantial and the building probably started life as a defended medieval tower and has been modified over time. For 2026 excavation the focus will be on the Northern range to ascertain the type of buildings there.
Substantial walls run towards this wing from the main building so are possibly connected. The evaluation trenches show that these features are very shallow. Excavation dates: The dates that we plan to be excavating on the site are (inclusive):
Sunday 16th to Wednesday 19th August
Sunday 23rd to Wednesday 26th August
Sunday 30th August to Wednesday 02nd September
Sunday 13th to Wednesday 16th September
Sunday 20th to Wednesday 23rd September
